Saugerties-based Elna Magnetics example of today's modern manufacturing
by Jim Ferraro, Vice President, Elna Magnetics
Elna Magnetics, headquartered in Saugerties, NY with a distribution center in Chula Vista, CA, was started in Woodstock, NY in 1955. Elna Magnetics is a manufacturer and distributor of magnetics components and accessories, integral in the supply chain of industries such as military, semiconductor, aerospace and medical applications. In an ever changing and challenging environment, especially for manufacturers, Elna prides itself on a commitment to investment in new technology and equipment, and to ensure we stay competitive to grow and provide good paying jobs to all of our 60 dedicated employees.
In a world with so many forces pushing against US domestic manufacturing, it is more important than ever that we support as much local manufacturing as possible. Staffing is a big issue not only at Elna, but at all manufacturing companies that I speak. I believe it is important to get the word out that the manufacturing of today embraces new technology such as robotics, and with the advent of AI, the possibilities are endless to be as creative and innovative as one allows themselves to be. The stigma that manufacturing is dirty, not good for the environment, or any of the other characteristics that are unfortunately attached to manufacturing simply aren’t true. I would encourage anyone to take the time to understand exactly how big of a role domestic US manufacturing plays in their daily life. Amazing things are happening across the country, but more importantly right here in Ulster County that are ground breaking and transformative.
Elna’s commitment to the future is exemplified by our recent doubling of our manufacturing footprint in Saugerties as well as our remodeling of our original facility in NY all of which is focused on increased efficiencies as we all as employee ergonomics. Our goal is to attract both more business opportunities as well as qualified employees.
