CONCERNS ABOUT PROPOSED WOODSTOCK NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Recently, a 620-acre development proposal named Woodstock National has been in the news.
The proposal calls for 191 housing units, including 90 single-family houses, 77 townhouses, and some ‘affordable units’ to be built in the towns of Woodstock and Ulster. It also calls for an 18-hole ‘professional level’ golf course, along with a club house, a golf ‘performance center’, 16 villas, and a possible helipad.
Ulster Strong understands the concerns raised by residents that the proposed development site lacks the infrastructure to support the scale of this development. We also share concerns around the environmental implications of clear cutting acres of wooded area within the Catskill Park, and being adjacent to the City of Kingston's water supply. Critics of the proposed project raise valid concerns that traffic generated would substantially impact neighbors and drivers using country roads.
Ulster Strong favors the development of new housing to help our current crises. We welcome new investor interest in Ulster County. However, there are many questions about this project, including whether Woodstock National would help alleviate housing pressure or add to it. For now, Ulster Strong eagerly awaits for the details of a formal development proposal.
